Bengaluru, Sep 26 (NationPress) The captain of the Indian women's cricket team, Harmanpreet Kaur, emphasized that her team's primary focus will be on the game and not on external controversies, especially ahead of their highly anticipated match against Pakistan. This statement comes against the backdrop of escalating tensions following the recent Asia Cup clashes between the men's teams.
As the tournament opener looms, Kaur and her fellow captains participated in a Media Day event in Bengaluru and Colombo. While four captains were present in Bengaluru, the other half attended the function in Colombo.
During the press session, Kaur was questioned about her thoughts on the rivalry with Pakistan, particularly given the recent tumultuous events surrounding the men's teams.
“At this moment, our priority is the opening match, which holds significant importance. The first game sets the tone for any team. We are focused on that match because it's crucial for our performance,” Kaur explained.
“Moreover, every team is equally significant. We can only manage the aspects we have control over. We are here to play cricket, and our primary concentration will be on the game. We will not engage with distractions on the field as our commitment is to the sport,” Kaur stated to reporters in Bengaluru.
For context, the recent Asia Cup games between India and Pakistan's men's teams led to multiple controversies, prompting the International Cricket Council's (ICC) intervention and subsequent reprimanding of players from both teams.
The men's teams are gearing up for another match after securing their places in the Asia Cup final, set to take place at Dubai International Stadium this Sunday, shortly before Harmanpreet Kaur leads her team against Sri Lanka in the World Cup opener in Guwahati on September 30.
The women's teams from India and Pakistan are set to clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on October 5 during the upcoming Women’s World Cup.
