Key Takeaways
Durban, April 17 (NationPress) The captain of India, Harmanpreet Kaur, has expressed that the forthcoming T20I series against South Africa will serve as an excellent opportunity to gear up for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. The series, consisting of five matches, will kick off at the Kingsmead Stadium this Friday evening, with a primary focus on refining both strategy and team composition for the World Cup.
“Our last encounter was during the ODI World Cup final, a match that left us with unforgettable memories. In T20 cricket, every nation is performing exceptionally well, making the competition fierce. South Africa has consistently excelled over the past four years. This series provides us with crucial preparation ahead of the World Cup,” Harmanpreet stated in a video shared by the BCCI on social media.
India's head coach, Amol Muzumdar, highlighted the team’s recent achievements across various formats. “It’s been tremendous—victories against Australia in Australia (2-1), a 5-0 win against Sri Lanka at home, and a 3-2 win against England in England have all been pivotal for our preparation, planning, and execution,” he remarked.
Harmanpreet noted the positive atmosphere within the squad as they prepare for the South African challenge. “Everyone seems optimistic, and the young players are showing great potential in practice. It’s encouraging to see everyone in good form,” she added.
Muzumdar commended the high intensity of the recent training camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. “The camp was outstanding; we had a rigorous 10-day training session. I've never witnessed this group of players work as hard as they did in the past week,” he mentioned.
As the series approaches, Harmanpreet summarized the team’s mindset: “It’s beneficial for us to compete against strong teams. This experience will ensure that we are both mentally and physically ready for the main tournament. We view this as an excellent platform for us.”
