Munich (Germany), Oct 17 (NationPress) Bayern Munich's head coach Vincent Kompany has minimized his contribution to Harry Kane’s outstanding scoring achievements this season, crediting the striker’s success solely to his personal commitment and ambition.

The England captain recently scored twice in the Three Lions’ 5-0 triumph against Latvia, which secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup.

When questioned about Kane’s comments praising him for the player’s progress, Kompany quickly redirected the accolades, asserting that the striker’s excellence originates from his own determination and insatiable desire for goals.

"He has unlocked that next level himself," Kompany stated during a press conference prior to Saturday's Bundesliga Klassiker matchup against Borussia Dortmund.

"He has consistently achieved this throughout his career. His progression is a matter of mentality. He has worked hard every year. Perhaps not winning titles earlier in his career fueled his drive, the same hunger expected from younger players."

Recognized as one of the top strikers of his generation, the 32-year-old has gathered numerous individual awards but had lacked a team trophy during his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur and early days at Bayern—until he finally broke the so-called “Kane title curse” by winning the Bundesliga title last season.

"You cannot further develop such a player," Kompany remarked. "It’s entirely dependent on his desire."

Belgian manager Vincent Kompany will be relying on Kane to sustain his remarkable form as Bayern prepares to face Dortmund, who are just four points behind the champions in second place. Both teams remain unbeaten in domestic and European competitions, with Dortmund showcasing a formidable defense—having conceded only once in their last five league matches.
