Navi Mumbai, Oct 30 (NationPress) After recovering from an injury, Australia captain Alyssa Healy returned to the playing XI and won the toss, deciding to bat first against India in the second semifinal of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. The match is being held in overcast and humid conditions at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Australia made one additional change to the lineup from their previous match by including spinner Sophie Molineux in place of Georgia Wareham, alongside Healy's return after missing the last two games.
India, on the other hand, made three adjustments, bringing in opener Shafali Verma to replace the injured Pratika Rawal, while Harleen Deol and Uma Chetry have been rested, paving the way for Richa Ghosh and Kranti Goud in the playing XI.
Captain Healy expressed confidence in the conditions, stating, "This is a great opportunity to put runs on the board. I am feeling fit and ready to go." She added that her time off was beneficial for rehabilitation, noting the high stakes of this semifinal match. "In a knockout game, the team that performs better will emerge victorious," she remarked.
India's captain Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged that she would have chosen to bat first as well, but sensed an opportunity with the ball given the weather conditions. She emphasized the need for her team to play with fearlessness against Australia.
Australia has been a dominant force in the 50-over format over the past decade, currently on a remarkable 15-match winning streak. Meanwhile, India has reached the semifinals four times previously and recently triumphed over Australia in the second ODI of a three-match series, which Australia eventually won 2-1.
In their earlier group stage encounter of this tournament, India faced defeat against Australia, with Alyssa Healy showcasing her prowess by scoring a stunning century.
