Brisbane, Aug 15 (NationPress) Australia’s regular captain and wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy expressed that the spin-dominant attacks she's encountering in the current series against India ‘A are proving to be excellent preparation for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, scheduled from September 30 to November 2.
Alyssa intensified her World Cup preparations by scoring 91 runs off just 87 balls, featuring eight fours and three sixes, during the second 50-over match at the Ian Healy Oval on Friday, even though Australia ‘A’ faced a narrow defeat by two wickets.
"They've got a really spin-heavy attack, and we're going to need to deal with a lot of that... throughout the World Cup as well. A significant portion of the middle overs will be spin-biased. For me, this is excellent practice and a great chance to be decisive with my footwork. I felt okay at times today — not exactly where I want to be — but I can certainly improve for the next game," Alyssa shared with cricket.com.au.
In the match, Alyssa kept wickets for 42 overs, which highlighted subtle adjustments to her stance to alleviate the pressure on her so-called 'ageing joints'. "It actually feels really good. I feel I’m in a good place. Taking some time to focus on my keeping has been incredibly valuable," she commented.
With all-rounder Tahlia McGrath leading Australia ‘A’, Alyssa humorously noted how much she enjoys not being responsible for tactical decision-making. "Today was a prime example of why I appreciate sitting out at times! Not having to contemplate the strategies at the end is refreshing," she remarked.
The third and final 50-over match is set to take place at the Ian Healy Oval on Sunday, with India ‘A looking to secure a clean sweep in the one-day segment of this multi-format series.
