Did Cheteshwar Pujara Just Receive a Special Letter from PM Modi on His Retirement?

New Delhi, Aug 31 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending a letter commending his illustrious cricketing career and extending wishes for his future pursuits post-retirement from all formats of Indian cricket.

"I felt truly privileged to receive a letter of appreciation from our Honourable Prime Minister. The kind words conveyed are deeply valued. As I embark on this new chapter, I will hold dear every moment spent on the field, along with the immense love and support I have received. Thank you, Sir," Pujara stated while sharing the letter on X.

Pujara announced his retirement on August 24, marking the end of a remarkable career featuring 103 Tests and a total of 7,195 Test runs at an impressive average of 43.60. He also played five One Day Internationals during his international career, with his last appearance for India in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval.

Aside from being India’s eighth-highest run-scorer in Tests, Pujara accumulated a staggering 21,301 runs in first-class cricket and was instrumental in Saurashtra's victory in the Ranji Trophy during the 2019/20 season.

In his letter, PM Modi lauded Pujara’s contributions to Indian cricket, stating, "In a time when shorter formats dominate, your presence was a reminder of the elegance of the longer format. Your steadfast temperament and ability to endure lengthy innings made you a key player in the Indian batting lineup.

"Your exceptional career is filled with instances of remarkable skill and determination, particularly in challenging overseas conditions. Fans will remember the Tests in Australia, where you laid the groundwork for India's historic first series victory on Australian soil! Your resilience against formidable bowling attacks showcased your capacity to bear responsibility for the team.

"Though your career is marked by numerous series wins, centuries, and double centuries, no statistics can encapsulate the sense of reassurance your presence provided to fans and teammates alike. This enduring legacy extends beyond mere figures."

The Prime Minister also recognized the sacrifices made by Pujara's family and conveyed his best wishes for his future endeavors.

"I believe your father, a cricketer and your mentor, takes immense pride in your achievements. Puja and Aditi must be thrilled to have more quality time with you, as they have made significant sacrifices to support your journey," he noted in the letter.

"Beyond the game, your analytical insights as a commentator add tremendous value to cricket fans who eagerly await your perspectives. I have no doubt that you will remain associated with the sport and continue to inspire aspiring cricketers."
