Dehradun, Sep 23 (NationPress) The Pithoragarh Hurricanes showcased a stellar all-round performance, clinching a convincing 7-wicket victory against the reigning champions, Mussoorie Thunders, in the inaugural match of the Women's Uttarakhand Premier League held on Tuesday.

Former Thunders captain Mansi Joshi made a significant impact by taking the field with the Hurricanes, starting the season off with a remarkable wicket maiden over. Her bowling figures of 1/3 in 2 overs played a pivotal role, while both Isha Gulreia and Rudra Sharma contributed by claiming 2 wickets each during the first innings.

The newly appointed Thunders captain, Amisha Bahukhandi, chose to bat first, a decision that backfired for her team. After a challenging powerplay, the Mussoorie squad managed to score only 25/2 by the end of the sixth over.

Reena Jindal steadied the innings with a score of 24 off 37 before falling to Vaishali Tulera on the last ball of the 13th over. The Thunders were ultimately dismissed for just 91 runs, leaving a manageable target for the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes began their chase strongly, highlighted by two boundaries and a maximum from Manisha Kunwar (17 off 21).

After her dismissal by Amisha Bahukhandi, teammate Ananya Mehra (35 off 39) partnered with Nandini Kaushik to forge a solid alliance of 53 runs off 55 balls. Kaushik's unbeaten score of 31 off 34 ultimately led the Hurricanes to victory, completing the chase in just 17 overs.

Ananya Mehra was honored as the Player of the Match for her all-around contribution, taking 1 wicket for 14 runs over 3.5 overs and contributing significantly with the bat. Sunil Kumar Joshi, Chairman of the Governing Council, UPL, presented the trophy and a cheque of Rs 10,000 to Ananya.
