I-League 2024-25: Delhi FC Secures Initial Victory Against Sreenidi Deccan FC

Hyderabad, Dec 9 (NationPress) Delhi FC moved off the bottom of the standings with a hard-fought and well-earned 1-0 victory over Sreenidi Deccan FC at the Deccan Arena on Monday. Stephane Binong netted the sole goal of the encounter for Delhi.

This marked Sreenidi Deccan’s second defeat of the season and the first instance they were unable to score in a home game since they began hosting matches at the Deccan Arena in the 2022-23 season. Consequently, the Deccan Warriors failed to capitalize on the opportunity to ascend to the top of the table, remaining in fifth place with six points from four matches. Meanwhile, Delhi FC advanced to 10th position with four points from the same number of games.

Inter Kashi and Real Kashmir FC, who battled to a 1-1 draw in Srinagar earlier in the day, each hold eight points, with Inter Kashi leading the table on goal difference. Churchill Brothers and Dempo SC are tied on seven points, with Churchill sitting in third place based on goal difference.

The first half at Deccan Arena was characterized by fine margins, with neither side managing to secure an advantage. It was notable that despite numerous attempts and intricate play, there were no shots on target in the initial period.

As the teams entered halftime goalless, both coaches likely aimed to motivate their strikers to find their scoring touch for the second half.

Despite being seen as the underdogs, Delhi displayed greater attacking vigor and creativity as the match progressed, eventually reaping their rewards in the 71st minute.

A long pass from midfield reached Jakob Vanlalhimpuia on the right wing. The winger skillfully cut the ball into the box's center. Stephane Binong, positioned in the area, executed a brilliant first touch to evade his marker before lofting a finish over the advancing Ubaid CK, scoring the decisive goal and clinching his team’s first triumph of the season.
