Hyderabad, March 19 (NationPress) Inter Kashi needed a last-minute goal to clinch a point and remain in close pursuit of the top position in the I-League 2024-25 with a 2-2 draw against Sreenidi Deccan on Wednesday.

The visiting team could have reclaimed the top spot with a win but had to settle for a resilient draw against a Sreenidi side that showcased their best form of the day.

After watching Churchill Brothers surpass them in the standings with a victory over Dempo Sports Club, Inter Kashi faced pressure to perform. Right from the beginning, they demonstrated their intent. Just 8 minutes in, Sumeet Passi had a chance, rising highest from a corner to direct a header towards the goal, which narrowly went wide.

In the 17th minute, however, Passi shifted to the role of provider, seizing a loose ball on the right flank and delivering a precise low cross into the six-yard box. K Prasanth effortlessly tapped it into an empty net, capitalizing on a moment where the Sreenidi defenders were caught off-guard.

The goal sparked life into the home team, and within three minutes, they almost equalized when David Castaneda headed towards goal from a looping right-sided cross. Kashi goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharja found himself caught off his line, but luck was on his side as the attempt was cleared off the line.

Sreenidi’s pressure continued, and the next significant opportunity fell to Lalromawia, who made a run into the box from the right before sending his shot high and wide of the far post.

The equalizer had been on the horizon, and after the break, Sreenidi maintained their momentum. Just three minutes post-restart, Lalromawia, after a brilliant one-two, delivered a curling cross into the six-yard area where Castaneda hammered his header into the net.

This equalizer allowed Sreenidi to intensify their efforts, and in the 72nd minute, after a prolonged spell of pressure, they seized the lead. A long throw-in from the left flank found its way through a crowded defense and onto the head of Brandon Vanlalremdika, who decisively headed it in.

Kashi found themselves in a precarious situation and began pushing forward in numbers, eager to salvage a point. In a frantic conclusion to the match, Kashi equalized when Bidhyasagar Singh scored in the first minute of injury time following a defensive blunder from Sreenidi. Both teams still had opportunities to clinch the win, but Passi squandered a clear chance at the end by sending his header over the bar with an open net in sight.
