I-League 2024-25: Sreenidi Deccan Claims First Win with 2-1 Triumph Over Churchill Brothers

Hyderabad, Dec 1 (NationPress) Sreenidi Deccan achieved their inaugural victory of the 2024-25 I-League season with a 2-1 triumph over Churchill Brothers at the Deccan Arena here on Sunday.
In their season opener, Sreenidi Deccan endured a defeat against Gokulam Kerala FC despite taking an early lead and displaying dominant play. This match reflected a similar pattern, with Churchill Brothers consistently posing threats to alter the game's dynamics. Nevertheless, Sreenidi Deccan showcased that they had learned from their previous loss, effectively neutralizing Churchill's attacks through strong defending and strategic use of the offside trap.
The first goal arrived in the 23rd minute from a set-piece situation. David Castenada Munoz assisted Brandon Vanlalremdika, who was fouled by Thomas K Cherian near the edge of the box. The following free-kick taken by Faysal Shayesteh sailed over the poorly timed jump of the Churchill wall and into the net, granting Sreenidi Deccan the lead.
The flow of the match continued into the second half, where Sreenidi Deccan increased their lead in the 73rd minute. A moment of distraction from Churchill’s Stendly Teotonio Fernandes allowed Sreenidi midfielders to intercept a pass and swiftly transition to attack. Munoz’s clever run attracted the attention of Churchill defenders, enabling him to set up an unmarked Orelien, who finished decisively to make it 2-0.
Churchill Brothers fought back towards the end of the game, scoring in the 91st minute when a corner was not cleared effectively by Sreenidi goalkeeper Ubaid CK. The ball landed at the feet of Hangshing, who struck from the top of the box. Energized by this goal, Churchill pressed for an equalizer, but Sreenidi Deccan’s defense remained resolute, securing the victory. The Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, was in attendance during the match and engaged with the players from both sides.
