Impressive Debut for Changla Blasters and Sham Wolves in Ice Hockey League Season 2

Leh, Jan 4 (NationPress) Fueled by a remarkable performance from Opadma M., the Changla Blasters surged ahead of United Nubra with a dominant 6-2 win in an electrifying opening match of the Ice Hockey League Season 2 at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium here on Saturday. Sham Wolves followed suit, claiming a 4-1 victory over Maryul Spawo, driven by an outstanding showing from Urgan, who netted two goals.
The second day of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League will showcase a grand Opening Ceremony featuring a Trophy & Jersey Unveiling, Skate sharpening machine handover, Puck drop ceremony, and the highly awaited match between Kang Sings, the reigning champion, and Shakar Chiktan Royal.
Entering as the visiting team, Changla Blasters set the tone early with aggressive offensive play, scoring four goals in the first period while allowing just one. J. Motup opened the scoring, followed swiftly by Tunatup with a pair of goals, establishing a firm lead. Tsewang T added a fourth, leaving the Blasters firmly in control at the end of the period. United Nubra managed a lone goal from Opadam M. during this timeframe, but it failed to shift the game's momentum.
The second period featured fierce competition, as United focused on their defense, preventing additional scoring from Changla Blasters. Despite their resilience, they were unable to penetrate the Blasters' solid defense. The period concluded without further scoring, maintaining a 4-1 lead for Changla Blasters.
In the third and final period, Changla Blasters displayed their dominance once again, with Dorjey M. and Aangchuk W. both scoring to extend their lead. United Nubra's Tamim R. managed to score one, but it wasn’t enough to initiate a comeback. Ultimately, Changla Blasters finished the game decisively with a 6-2 victory.
The second match of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League began gradually, with Sham Wolves taking an early lead in the first period through a goal by Naway G., while their defense kept Maryul Spawo from finding the net. In the second period, the Wolves maintained better control, with Stanzin D. and Urgan C. scoring consecutively, bringing the score to 3-0.
Their defense remained strong, denying Spawo any chances. The third period brought more excitement as both teams managed to score, with Urgan C. scoring for the Wolves and Dorjey G. for Maryul Spawo. Ultimately, Sham Wolves secured a solid 4-1 win.
The Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League (REIHL) returns to Ladakh for its second season, scheduled from January 4 to 13, 2025, at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium in Leh. This year’s league aims to build on the success of its inaugural edition, which attracted around 6000 spectators, uniting local talents from across the region.
Ice Hockey League 2025 will feature 30 matches—23 in the men's category and 7 in the women’s—over 10 days. The men’s tournament will be divided into two groups of five teams each, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals.
The women’s tournament will also utilize a two-group round-robin format, comprising three teams in one group and two in another, followed by semi-finals and finals on January 12. The men's championship final is set for January 13.
