New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) Following the conclusion of the two-Test series against the West Indies, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj earned the title of 'Impact Player of the Series' and expressed that each wicket he claimed felt equivalent to a fifer.
India dominated the West Indies, winning the first Test by an innings and 140 runs and sealing the second match by seven wickets, thereby achieving a series whitewash of 2-0. Siraj recorded seven wickets in the first match and followed up with three in the concluding Test.
"Honestly, this series was exceptionally successful. During our game in Ahmedabad, there was some assistance for pacers. In New Delhi, we had to put in a lot of overs. Each wicket felt like five to me. As a fast bowler, when your efforts are rewarded, it boosts your confidence, and I was thrilled to receive the Impact Player award in the dressing room," Siraj mentioned in a video.
He further stated that Test cricket holds a special place in his heart, and he takes pride in every small achievement. "I feel immense pride as a person with every accomplishment. I will strive to maintain such performances because Test cricket is my preferred format.
"There are numerous challenges; you must be present on the field for the entire day, both physically and mentally. It's very distinct, but it also instills pride in me," he added.
In a video shared by BCCI.tv, India's wicketkeeper-batter N. Jagadeesan awarded Siraj his medal in the dressing room, praising the fast bowler's performance throughout the series as impeccable.
"There were many great performances during this series, but it was all about one individual who has been exceptional throughout," Jagadeesan remarked.
“He exhibits a lot of energy, bravery, and aggression every time he is handed the ball. His attitude remained consistent, and importantly, he was often the first to encourage others on the field," he added.
The victory in the second Test marked India's tenth consecutive win against the West Indies and their 122nd Test victory overall, surpassing South Africa to claim the No. 3 spot. This win also represents India's first Test series triumph under Shubman Gill's captaincy, after drawing 2-2 in England earlier this year.
