Xiamen (China), April 29 (NationPress) The promising mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto displayed their talent with a remarkable comeback victory, providing the team with a solid beginning. However, India could not escape a 1-4 defeat against Indonesia during their second Group D encounter at the BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2025 held here on Tuesday.
After succumbing to Denmark in their initial match, India was in dire need of a victory against Indonesia to keep their knockout stage ambitions alive. Despite a valiant effort, the plans did not materialize as expected.
Dhruv and Tanisha set the tone for the team after overcoming an early challenge.
The world No. 17 pair initially struggled in their opening game against the seasoned Rehan Kusharjanto and Gloria Widjaja, yet they capitalized on their opportunities in the second game to push the match to a decider.
In the final game, Dhruv and Tanisha made a comeback twice, turning the tide from 16-19 to win five consecutive points and secure the match with scores of 10-21, 21-18, 21-19.
Following this, PV Sindhu had the opportunity to extend India’s advantage in the women’s singles, but despite her determination, she struggled to find her rhythm, ultimately losing 12-21, 13-21 against World No. 11 Putri Wardani.
In the men’s singles, HS Prannoy reignited India’s hopes by claiming the first game against Jonatan Christie with an energetic start. However, the momentum slipped away, and he lost in a tight contest with scores of 21-19, 14-21, 12-21.
With both their top men’s and women’s doubles teams absent, India faced a daunting challenge moving forward.
Although the youthful pairings of Shruti Mishra/Priya Konjengbam and Hariharan Amsakarunan/Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi fought valiantly, they were unable to secure victories against their opponents.
India is set to compete against England, who have also faced two losses, in their final group match on Thursday.
