He played a vital role in India’s squad that reached the semifinals of the 2015 Men’s ODI World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand, in addition to his contributions to Haryana in domestic cricket.
“With a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to donning the India jersey and participating in the IPL, this journey has been a true blessing,” Mohit expressed in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Haryana Cricket Association for being my foundation. My deepest gratitude goes to Anirudh Sir, whose unwavering guidance and faith in me shaped my journey beyond words. I am grateful to the BCCI, my coaches, teammates, IPL franchises, support staff, and all my friends for their immense love and support,” he added.
Renowned for his disciplined new-ball spells and variations like cutters, slower balls, and slow bouncers during the death overs, Mohit was also a significant presence in the IPL, having taken 134 wickets in 120 matches. He played for Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and most recently, Delhi Capitals.
Mohit was a key bowler for CSK, achieving 20 wickets in 15 innings during the IPL 2013. He clinched the purple cap in the 2014 season after taking 23 wickets in 16 games.
After facing a decline in form, Mohit joined the Gujarat Titans as a net bowler for IPL 2022 and became part of the main squad in 2023. In that season, he was the second-highest wicket-taker with 27 wickets in 14 innings at a strike rate of 9.81, helping the team reach the finals.
He also emerged as GT's leading wicket-taker in IPL 2024, with 13 wickets in 12 matches. “Special thanks to my wife, who has always supported me through my ups and downs. I look forward to contributing to the game in new ways. Thank you so much, innings over, gratitude forever,” Mohit concluded.
