Suryakumar Yadav Hails Incredible Comeback as India Secures T20 World Cup Final Spot

Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 5 (NationPress) Describing it as an incredible experience, captain Suryakumar Yadav lauded batter Sanju Samson and his bowlers, particularly pace leader Jasprit Bumrah, attributing the victory to fielding coach T Dilip as India made a stunning comeback to stop a dominant England, securing a spot in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup with a narrow seven-run win at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
Typically calm under pressure, the Indian captain admitted his heart was racing as India faced a daunting challenge, requiring 45 runs from the final three overs against England. Jacob Bethell had set the stage with a remarkable 100 off just 45 balls, forming crucial partnerships with Will Jacks and Sam Curran.
However, Bumrah delivered an exceptional 18th over, allowing only six runs, and Hardik Pandya followed with a nine-run penultimate over, claiming the vital wicket of Sam Curran, which turned the match in India’s favor as they clinched victory by seven runs.
"Incredible experience. Playing at home and leading such a remarkable team is special. Samson stepped up right when we needed him; he delivered. I communicated with Harry about how much more we needed against them. They were consistently in the chase, but the way our bowlers seized control was phenomenal. Bumrah's capabilities are well-known," Suryakumar Yadav shared during the post-match presentation.
Yadav also acknowledged T Dilip for his coaching efforts, which paid off as Axar Patel made a stunning catch, paving the way for dismissals of Harry Brook and Will Jacks. India had struggled with fielding earlier in the tournament, dropping 13 catches before the semifinal, but showed improvement on the day.
"We must commend T. Dilip, our fielding coach. The players are responding well and putting in the extra effort, which is evident. Everything is set till No. 3; once we saw Rashid, Dube was the ideal match-up," remarked the Indian skipper.
Suryakumar Yadav confessed to feeling quite anxious upon entering the Wankhede Stadium for the semifinal.
"I was incredibly nervous; my heart rate must have been around 160-175. By the time we arrived, the stadium was already about 80% full, and we hope we provided an entertaining match for the crowd," said SKY.
He added that competing for the title on home soil would introduce a different level of pressure, yet he believes the players will be enthusiastic.
"Chasing the title in India will bring its challenges, but the players and support staff are ready and excited," he concluded.
