India kicked off their campaign with an exciting 3-2 victory against England but stumbled in the second encounter, losing 2-1 in a shootout after a 2-2 draw in regular time. In their third match, India battled valiantly against Spain in a thrilling clash but narrowly succumbed to a 3-4 defeat. The same scenario unfolded in their subsequent match, where they were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Spain in a tightly contested game.
Currently, the team led by Salima Tete is sitting in eighth place on the points table, accumulating four points from four matches. Although the team has displayed flashes of brilliance, they hope to seize opportunities and find consistency as they prepare for the challenge posed by Germany.
Meanwhile, Germany is also on the hunt for their first regular win of the tournament. After playing six matches, the Germans have suffered four losses in regulation and one in a shootout, while managing to earn a bonus point from a shootout victory. They currently occupy the bottom of the standings with three points, making this a vital matchup for both sides.
Before the matches against Germany, India captain Salima Tete stated, “We understand that these upcoming games hold great significance for us, especially after the narrow matches we’ve experienced. The team has exemplified a lot of heart and effort, but we need to be more precise in crucial moments, particularly in converting our opportunities. Germany is a formidable opponent, and we anticipate a tough battle, but we are resolved to turn our fortunes around.”
“We have focused our training on our defense and penalty corner execution. Everyone is motivated and prepared to give their utmost in these crucial matches. We are aware of what’s at stake, and as a cohesive unit, we are confident in our ability to meet the challenge and deliver a strong performance,” she added.
