New Delhi, Nov 14 (NationPress) The India women’s cricket team, fresh off their victory in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, is set to challenge the Governor-General’s XI in a T20 warm-up match on February 13, 2026, at the North Sydney Oval. This match serves as a precursor to their upcoming multi-format series against Australia.
“It’s always a significant honor for players to be chosen for the Governor-General’s XI and represent their team. For some, this will be a final opportunity to practice before the multiformat series, while for others, it’s a chance to demonstrate their abilities in a prestigious match against high-caliber opponents,” expressed a spokesperson.
“We are eager to collaborate with the Governor-General to assemble a skilled team that reflects the importance of this event on the cricket calendar,” stated Shawn Flegler, Cricket Australia’s Head of Performance (Women’s Cricket) and National Selector.
Since its inception in 2015-16, the Governor-General’s XI fixture has been instrumental in promoting and supporting women’s cricket. Sam Mostyn AC will captain the Governor-General’s XI for the second time, following this year’s rain-affected match against England.
The team usually features a blend of seasoned players and up-and-coming stars, providing an exciting lead-up to the multi-format series between India and Australia, which kicks off at the Sydney Cricket Ground on February 15, 2026.
“I am thrilled to lead the Governor-General’s XI—comprising stars of Australian cricket—against the newly crowned World Champion Indian side. The GG’s XI match precedes what promises to be an exhilarating Australia-India multi-format series. Like all cricket enthusiasts, I eagerly anticipate cheering for our team,” said Mostyn.
“The Australian women’s team has set a high standard in the sport over time, and I am confident they will embrace the challenge in this series. I hope to see a large crowd supporting both teams during this momentous event,” she added.
India’s tour of Australia will span from February 15 to March 9, featuring one Test, three ODIs, and three T20Is. The series will commence with the T20I leg at the Sydney Cricket Ground on February 15, followed by matches at Manuka Oval, Canberra, and Adelaide Oval on February 19 and 21 respectively.
The focus will then shift to the ODI series, starting at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on February 24. The second and third ODIs will take place at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on February 27 and March 1 respectively.
The third ODI was relocated to Hobart from Melbourne due to floodlight complications. The tour will conclude with a day-night Test at the WACA Ground in Perth from March 6 to 9.
