Bengaluru, Aug 14 (NationPress) The Indian women’s cricket team has successfully concluded a 10-day preparatory camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, strategically aiming to gear up for the forthcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, scheduled from September 30 to November 2.
As highlighted in visuals shared by the BCCI on their social media, the camp emphasized a blend of strength and conditioning drills, match simulations, and critical skill-building exercises. Under the guidance of head coach Amol Muzumdar, the team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, engaged in rigorous practice sessions and a series of practice matches.
“The Indian Women’s Team has wrapped up a 10-day World Cup preparatory camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, concentrating on targeted strength and conditioning activities alongside match simulations. This initiative aimed to elevate fitness levels, refine skills, and prepare the squad for upcoming challenges,” stated the BCCI in a post on their ‘X’ account.
In the lead-up to the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, India is set to host Australia for a three-match ODI series commencing on September 14. Although initially planned for Chennai, the series has been relocated due to renovations at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The initial two ODIs will be held at the new PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh on September 14 and 17, followed by the final match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 20.
This marks the first instance of New Chandigarh hosting women’s international cricket, while New Delhi returns to the women’s ODI scene after last hosting matches in 1985 and 1995.
The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup will take place across venues in Visakhapatnam, Indore, and Guwahati in India, with Colombo in Sri Lanka also serving as a venue. Reports suggest that Thiruvananthapuram may replace Bengaluru as a tournament site due to the Karnataka government denying permission to host matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Concerns regarding the safety of the matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium arose following the tragic stampede incident on June 4, which resulted in 11 fatalities and 50 injuries during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory celebrations.
The tournament will adopt a round-robin format featuring eight teams, including defending champions Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
This event will represent the first global women’s cricket tournament in the subcontinent since India hosted the 2016 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. India has previously held the Women’s ODI World Cup in 1978, 1997, and 2013.
