New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) The Indian women’s cricket team is set to engage in a week-long preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam before the upcoming ODI World Cup. According to sources from IANS, players are expected to arrive in Visakhapatnam on August 24, with the camp commencing the following day.

As per IANS, this week-long training session will include the entire 15-member World Cup squad along with reserve players, although the daily agenda is still under development. “Team members currently in Australia for the ongoing ‘A’ tour will join the camp directly in Visakhapatnam after completing their four-day game,” sources added.

Recently, the team led by Harmanpreet Kaur underwent a ten-day preparatory camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to gear up for the Women’s ODI World Cup, starting on September 30.

The focus of the camp at CoE was on strength and conditioning, match simulations, and specific skill drills. The selection of Visakhapatnam as the venue for the upcoming camp is advantageous for the Indian team, as they are scheduled to face South Africa and reigning champions Australia in two league stage matches on October 9 and October 12, respectively.

On Wednesday, India unveiled its 15-member squad along with five reserve players during a press conference featuring captain Harmanpreet and chief selector Neetu David at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Notably, fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur and all-rounder Amanjot Kaur have made the squad after recovering from injuries.

Amanjot will be rested for the three-match ODI series against Australia leading to the World Cup to manage a back issue, while Renuka returns after healing from a stress fracture. Shafali Verma has been omitted from the squad but will participate in the India ‘A’ team for World Cup warm-up matches.

India will kick off the eight-team tournament against co-hosts Sri Lanka on September 30. Although India has never clinched the Women’s ODI World Cup, they have been runners-up in the 2005 and 2017 editions.
