New Delhi, Sep 3 (NationPress) Leading the charge are Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and World Champions Nikhat Zareen as twenty Indian boxers prepare to face off against some of the world's premier pugilists in various categories at the inaugural World Boxing Championships 2025, set to unfold from September 4 to 14 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
This championship marks the first edition organized by World Boxing, the newly established global authority for the sport.
The biennial event will convene the top amateur boxers from around the globe, with India displaying a remarkable performance after securing 17 medals at the World Boxing Cups in Brazil and Kazakhstan earlier this year.
Entering the tournament with significant momentum, India has built on impressive showings at recent international events. In the World Boxing Cup held in Brazil, the Indian team achieved six medals, including a gold for Hitesh and a silver for Abhinash Jamwal, along with four bronze medals.
This success continued in Kazakhstan, where India showcased consistency and depth, winning 11 additional medals, including three golds. The team’s prowess across all categories was further highlighted by Nupur Sheoran, who took gold in the heavyweight division.
“Our training in Sheffield has been outstanding. This squad is a powerful blend of experienced fighters and a new generation of talented boxers eager to make an impact. Sanamacha Chanu (70 kg).
