Chennai, Dec 3 (NationPress) Joshna Chinappa, a former world No. 10, staged an impressive comeback to defeat Egyptian second seed Nardine Garas in a thrilling five-game match during the HCL Squash Indian Tour 4 quarterfinals held on Wednesday in Chennai. This victory allowed four Indian players to progress to the semifinals.
Velavan Senthilkumar and Anahat Singh, both reigning National champions in their respective categories and top seeds, achieved convincing wins at the Indian Squash Academy. However, men's second seed Veer Chotrani faced an early exit.
In the semifinals scheduled for Thursday, 39-year-old Joshna, who claimed victory at the Japan Open in October and was a runner-up in last month's Daly College Indian Open, will face sixth seed Tanvi Khanna. The latter secured her spot by narrowly defeating Hong Kong's fourth seed Nga Ching Cheng in a five-game match.
Earlier, Velavan Senthilkumar and Anahat Singh advanced to the quarterfinals on Tuesday with decisive wins. World No. 46 Senthilkumar overpowered Sri Lanka’s Ravindu Laksiri with scores of 11-7, 11-8, 11-7, while Delhi’s junior star Anahat, ranked 29th globally, triumphed over Tamara Holzbauerova from the Czech Republic with a score of 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 after receiving a bye in the first round.
