New Delhi, Nov 3 (NationPress) Following India's long-awaited triumph in securing the ICC Women's World Cup trophy, Richa Ghosh's childhood mentor, Gopal Saha, expressed his congratulations to the team, emphasizing that the unfinished task from 2017 has now been accomplished.
This marked India's third appearance in a World Cup final, having previously been runners-up in 2005 and 2017, where they fell short against Australia and England, respectively. The 2017 final at Lord's was particularly painful for India, as they lost by a mere nine runs.
"It feels incredible. The unfinished task from 2017 has finally been fulfilled. India's victory brings immense joy. Congratulations to all! Keep excelling and moving forward," Saha shared with IANS.
Gopal Saha added, "When she returns, a celebration will take place in Siliguri. Let's wait for her return before celebrating properly."
Richa made a swift contribution with a score of 34 off 24 balls, hitting two sixes to tie the record for the most sixes in a single Women's World Cup edition, concluding the tournament with 12 sixes, matching the records set by Deandra Dottin from the West Indies and Lizelle Lee from South Africa.
In addition, Richa, along with opener Shafali Verma, played a vital role in winning the inaugural Women's U19 World Cup in 2023.
Former diplomat and Rajya Sabha member Harsh V Shringla also praised Richa for her impressive performance, stating, "Thrilled that Richa Ghosh from our own #Siliguri has made history and filled every Indian heart with pride. Her fearless 34 runs off 24 balls, including two towering sixes, didn’t just elevate India’s score but inspired every young girl with dreams. With 12 sixes in this World Cup, Richa matched the world record for the most sixes in a single edition."
"Prime Minister @narendramodi referred to them as 'an inspiration for generations,' and rightly so, as this team’s journey illustrates that talent combined with courage allows dreams from every corner of India to shine on the world stage.
“Today, India celebrates her, and Siliguri takes great pride in its daughter who made the tricolor fly higher," he concluded.
