Melbourne, Oct 30 (NationPress) As the Indian squad gears up for the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), they have arrived in the city on Thursday.
Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, the team is eager to seize an early advantage in the five-match series after the first T20I was canceled due to rain in Canberra on Wednesday.
Buoyed by the captain's recent form, the Indian team is looking to capitalize on their momentum. In the previous match, Suryakumar showcased his skills with an impressive unbeaten score of 39, while opener Shubman Gill was also not out at 37 when rain ended the game.
Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first. Abhishek Sharma provided India with a swift start, hitting boundaries three times in the initial two overs. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill started to find his rhythm, striking a couple of boundaries off Nathan Ellis before the pacer cleverly dismissed Abhishek with a slower delivery.
Suryakumar then made an impact with his signature flick for six, but rain soon disrupted the match. When play resumed, the game was shortened to 18 overs per side. Following a lull, both Gill and Suryakumar accelerated their scoring, particularly the Indian captain, who looked to reclaim his form.
Gill executed a slog sweep off Matthew Kuhnemann, while Suryakumar struck back-to-back boundaries and another six against Ellis. With India sitting at 97 for 1 in 9.4 overs, they seemed on track for a solid finish before rain once again halted play. The second T20I is set to take place on Friday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Previously, India faced a setback in the three-match ODI series, losing 2-1, although cricketing stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have shown signs of returning to form despite early challenges on this tour.
