Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Dharamsala, Dec 15 (NationPress) Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has expressed his confidence in captain Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill to lead the team to victory as they prepare for the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka.
In a recent match, India achieved a seven-wicket win over South Africa in the third T20I at the HPCA Stadium, with Gill contributing a steady 28 runs from 28 balls, while Suryakumar managed 12 runs.
“Let me be clear. I believe that Suryakumar and Shubman will be pivotal in securing victories for India during the World Cup, as well as in the lead-up matches,” said Abhishek, who was the top scorer with 35, while speaking to reporters post-match.
“Having played alongside them for a considerable time, especially with Shubman, I am confident in his abilities to perform well regardless of the conditions or the opponent. I trust him completely, and soon, others will recognize his potential too,” he added.
Following Abhishek's dismissal, India took over ten overs to chase down the remaining runs, ultimately achieving a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
“The fast bowlers had some assistance, and I realized that if I could provide a solid start, we could finish the match in the Powerplay, which we did,” he noted.
“The strategy for the remaining batters was straightforward: finish the match quickly. As a batter, it’s crucial to adapt to the conditions, considering factors like swing and seam, so I aimed to play shots that suited the pitch conditions,” he elaborated.
Both teams will now head to Lucknow for the fourth match of the series at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
