Why Was Shubman Gill Excluded from India's T20 World Cup Squad?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 20 (NationPress) In a surprising move, the reigning champions India have omitted Shubman Gill from their lineup for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the T20Is against New Zealand. The squad was revealed by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, along with captain Suryakumar Yadav and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who has appointed Axar Patel as the vice-captain.
Alongside Gill, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has also been left out as Ishan Kishan makes a remarkable comeback to the team, showcasing his explosive skills that helped Jharkhand secure victory in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Additionally, Rinku Singh returns to the T20I squad after missing the recent 3-1 series win in South Africa.
“We are evaluating our combinations. Our perspective was to include another keeper. Gill is a talented player, and it's unfortunate that he was not selected, but we are focusing on the best combination. Ishan is in good form and has previously played for India,” Agarkar explained.
