Melbourne, Oct 14 (NationPress) Australia wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has been officially ruled out of the ODI series opener against India this Sunday. Additionally, spinner Adam Zampa will also be absent from the match due to family commitments.
Inglis is still in recovery from a calf strain, which previously sidelined him during Australia's T20 tour of New Zealand earlier this month.
To fill the gaps, Australia has added wicketkeeper Josh Philippe and spinner Matthew Kuhnemann to their lineup for the opening match against India.
Philippe, who joined the T20 squad in New Zealand as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell when he returned home due to a fractured wrist, is poised to make his first ODI appearance since the tour of the West Indies in 2021.
Kuhnemann could also mark his return to 50-over internationals since 2022, with all-rounders Matt Short and Cooper Connolly being the only other spinners in the squad.
Meanwhile, Zampa is anticipated to rejoin the Australian team ahead of the second ODI against India on October 23.
According to Cricket Australia, Inglis is expected to make his comeback for the third ODI in Sydney on October 25.
Alex Carey has been released from the squad for the first ODI to participate in South Australia's round two Sheffield Shield match against Queensland as part of his preparation for the upcoming Ashes. He will rejoin the squad in Adelaide prior to the second match of the series.
India’s white-ball tour of Australia, led by new captain Shubman Gill, is set to commence with the ODI series opener on October 19 at Perth Stadium. This will be followed by matches at Adelaide Oval and Sydney Cricket Ground on October 23 and 25, respectively.
The series will be succeeded by a five-match T20I series beginning on October 29. The last time India visited Australia for a bilateral ODI series, they suffered a 2-1 defeat in 2020/21, but managed to win the subsequent T20I series by the same margin during that tour.
