Bonn, Nov 20 (NationPress) The election process for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board concluded during an online Extraordinary General Assembly, resulting in the election of seven Members-at-Large. This election was executed following the decision made at the General Assembly held in September.
During the General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, IPC members re-elected Brazil's Andrew Parsons as President for a third consecutive term and appointed Leila Marques Mota from Portugal and John Petersson from Denmark as Vice-Presidents. However, the election of the seven Members-at-Large was postponed after the initial voting round due to time limitations.
On Thursday, the newly elected Members-at-Large include Debra Alexander, Chelsey Gotell, Fernando Riaño, Mohamed Duaij Alkhalifa, Robyn Smith, Miki Matheson, and Bradley Snyder, each set to serve a four-year term.
These seven individuals will join Parsons, Mota, and Petersson on the IPC Governing Board, along with IPC Athletes’ Council Chairperson Vladyslava Kravchenko and First Vice-Chairperson Josh Dueck.
IPC President Andrew Parsons remarked: “Following today’s online IPC Extraordinary General Assembly, I want to extend my congratulations to the seven Members-at-Large who have been voted in by IPC membership. We now have a robust 12-member Board that, thanks to its diversity and experience, is poised to significantly advance the Paralympic Movement over the next four years.
“The Board features an equal representation of six males and six females, with all five regions represented. Notably, eight members are Paralympians, ensuring that the athletes’ perspectives will be integral to all Board decisions.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing Board members for their exceptional contributions. It has been an honor to work alongside you in serving our members and the athletes they support.
“A special acknowledgment goes to Duane Kale for his exemplary service, including two terms as Vice-President. His methodical and composed leadership, particularly during the IPC Governance Review, has made him an outstanding Vice-President and Board member.”
All elected members of the IPC Governing Board will serve a four-year term concluding at the 24th IPC General Assembly, scheduled for late 2029.
