ISL 2024-25: Mohammedan SC Aims to Break Five-Match Goalless Streak Against Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru, Jan 10 (NationPress) Bengaluru FC is set to face off against Mohammedan SC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 this Saturday. The Blues triumphed with a 2-1 victory in their earlier encounter this season, and they now have the opportunity to complete a double over a Kolkata club for the first time since the 2018-19 season, when they managed to defeat ATK on both occasions.
This match presents a crucial chance for Mohammedan SC to put an end to their five-match goalless streak in the league, which stands as the joint-third longest such sequence in ISL history.
At present, Bengaluru FC holds the second position in the league standings, accumulating 27 points from 14 matches. In contrast, Mohammedan SC finds themselves at the bottom of the table, having only managed seven points from the same number of games and struggling significantly in front of goal, with a mere five goals scored this season.
Nevertheless, the team has shown some promise recently, achieving points in back-to-back matches following goalless draws against Odisha FC and NorthEast United FC. Their defensive unit performed admirably in holding back the potent attacking lines of their opponents, and they are hopeful that this defensive strength can lead to improved attacking efficiency.
The Blues have experienced a mix of results in their last five matches, winning and losing twice each. They currently trail the league leaders, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, by five points (32 points) while having played the same number of games. The Mariners have been in fine form, winning four of their last five matches, including two consecutive victories.
Bengaluru FC has established the Sree Kanteerava Stadium as a stronghold, remaining unbeaten in their last seven home fixtures (W5 D2). However, they have struggled defensively, not keeping a clean sheet in their last nine ISL matches, conceding a total of 19 goals in that time. They will rely on a combination of defensive solidity and the home advantage to secure all three points in this match.
Franca from Mohammedan SC has attempted 32 shots this season without scoring, the highest tally by any player in ISL history. The team is eager for him to break this drought to enhance their chances against the Blues.
Bengaluru FC's assistant coach, Renedy Singh, has urged his players to focus on creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities. “I want the players to dominate the game, create more chances, and the goals will come. We have done well in the last few matches and the players will repeat the same kind of confidence,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Mohammedan SC's head coach, Andrey Chernyshov, acknowledged Bengaluru FC as one of the strongest teams in the ISL. “Bengaluru FC are one of the best teams in the ISL. They have played nice football, they have good players, including many Indian national team players. They have done a good job in the last few games,” he commented.
