New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Renowned Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is poised to take the field in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match for Saurashtra against Punjab at his home venue, the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, on January 22.

“Ravindra Jadeja has reached out to us and confirmed his participation in the team’s next Ranji Trophy fixture against Punjab, which will occur in Rajkot starting January 22. While I cannot comment on his plans beyond this match, he is definitely set to play against Punjab. His future decisions remain to be seen,” stated Jaydev Shah, president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, in an interview with IANS.

He went on to reveal that the association is aware of Shubman Gill, the captain of India, making plans to travel to Rajkot for the match representing Punjab. “It has come to our notice that Shubman Gill will be in Rajkot to play for Punjab,” added Jaydev.

This season, Saurashtra has seen their first four matches in the Ranji Trophy (Elite) end in draws, before achieving a decisive victory against Goa by an innings and 47 runs in November 2025. They are now gearing up to face Punjab at their home ground in Rajkot, followed by an away match against Chandigarh starting January 29.

Shubman Gill has yet to participate in a Ranji Trophy match this season; his last outing was against Karnataka in the previous season. In contrast, Jadeja has only featured in one domestic game for Saurashtra, which was against Madhya Pradesh and ended in a draw.

At present, Saurashtra and Punjab occupy the lower positions in their Elite Group. Saurashtra is in fourth place with one win and four draws out of five matches, trailing behind Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Punjab sits in sixth, having recorded one win and one loss across five encounters.

Each team has one league match left following this fixture. As neither Gill nor Jadeja has any imminent international commitments, they are likely available for their respective state teams in the concluding group game of the Ranji Trophy. Jadeja has retired from T20Is, while Gill is not participating in either of India’s upcoming international series — a five-match T20I series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup.
