Birmingham, July 2 (NationPress) Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased a commendable performance, scoring 87 runs, while captain Shubman Gill demonstrated remarkable patience, remaining unbeaten on 42. As a result, India concluded the first day of the second Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test against England at Edgbaston with a score of 182/3 after 53 overs at tea.

This session highlighted traditional attritional cricket, with India accumulating 84 runs over 28 overs. Jaiswal fell just 13 runs shy of his sixth Test century, while Gill held his ground with an unbeaten knock of 109 balls, featuring merely three boundaries. With Rishabh Pant also not out on 14 off 28 balls, India is poised to enhance their score, as another demanding session awaits England's bowlers.

The second session commenced with Gill and Jaiswal capitalizing on any scoring opportunity available. Jaiswal secured a boundary by slicing the ball over the slips, while Gill capitalized on edges through gully twice, showcasing his resilience as he navigated challenges around his front pad.

Woakes persistently tested Gill around the middle stump line, aiming to induce him into playing across his front pad. However, the Indian captain adeptly dealt with it using his solid forward defense.
