New Delhi, Nov 16 (NationPress) Sunil Sethi, who served as a member of the legal affairs sub-committee of the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), has officially resigned from his position. In a letter directed to Mithun Manhas, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sethi, based in Jammu, expressed his decision to step down from his responsibilities within the state association.
This resignation follows the Supreme Court's directive on October 27, mandating that JKCA elections be conducted within a 12-week timeframe, under the oversight of former Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti.
“I was appointed to the sub-committee to manage JKCA affairs in 2021 and have diligently fulfilled my duties. However, with the Supreme Court's order to conduct JKCA elections, the attempt to appoint a new Ombudsman has not received approval from the Election Officer until the General Body is formed. Unfortunately, the former Ombudsman is issuing retroactive orders, now backdating to March 2025, without any prior notice or approval. These orders are altering club management and voting rights.
“This initiative aims to modify the voting terms, which I prefer not to be involved with. Therefore, I hereby submit my resignation from the sub-committee. Kindly accept and relieve me of my duties. I appreciate the opportunity the Board has provided me,” Sethi stated in his resignation letter to Manhas, a copy of which has been obtained by IANS.
In June 2021, Sethi and Manhas, both prominent figures in domestic cricket for J&K and Delhi, alongside Brigadier (Retd.) Anil Gupta, were appointed to a three-member JKCA sub-committee established by the BCCI to oversee the association's daily functions.
While Manhas took charge of cricket operations and development, Gupta was responsible for administrative tasks. Following Manhas's election as BCCI President on September 28, former J&K captain Vidya Bhaskar succeeded him on the JKCA sub-committee.
