Jamshedpur, Feb 2 (NationPress) Jamshedpur FC triumphed over FC Goa with a score of 3-1 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex during the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Sunday. Khalid Jamil made history as the first head coach to achieve a league double over Manolo Marquez in the ISL, having previously secured a 2-1 victory against the Gaurs on September 17.
This victory allowed Jamshedpur FC to leapfrog FC Goa, now holding 34 points compared to the 33 of the Gaurs.
Lazar Cirkovic delivered an outstanding strike, finding the top right corner of the FC Goa net in the 34th minute. Javi Hernandez and Lazar were engaged in a tight play on the flank, where Lazar seized possession and swiftly fired a shot, granting the Men of Steel the lead.
Building on this momentum, RFYC graduate Mohammed Sanan dazzled inside the box from the left before advancing into the final third and directing a shot toward the center of the net. Although FC Goa goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari managed a save, Javi Siverio was perfectly positioned to tap in the rebound, extending the lead to 2-0 by the 37th minute.
Just before half-time, FC Goa narrowed the gap with a smooth combination between Brison Fernandes and Ayush Dev Chhetri. Brison delivered a quick pass from the left to the center, which Ayush expertly struck into the bottom right corner, reigniting the Gaurs' hopes.
The Gaurs maintained their pressure in the second half, with Mohammed Yasir and Sahil Tavora creating a dangerous moment near the Jamshedpur FC box in the 57th minute. Tavora found an opening in the final third and set up a straightforward chance for Yasir, whose attempt struck the crossbar from the center of the box.
However, Khalid Jamil’s substitution of Mobashir Rahman for Sourav Das in the 58th minute proved pivotal for Jamshedpur FC.
