ISL 2024-25: Jamshedpur FC Clinches 3-1 Victory Over Mohammedan SC

Jamshedpur, Dec 2 (NationPress) Mohammed Sanan, Javier Siverio, and Stephen Eze each netted a goal as Jamshedpur FC marked their return to winning form with a resounding 3-1 victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club during the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here on Monday.

The talented Reliance Foundation Young Champs graduate Mohammed Sanan opened the scoring for Jamshedpur FC, with Javier Siverio and Stephen Eze contributing to the scoreline. Mohammed Irshad provided a solitary consolation goal for the visitors as the team, managed by Khalid Jamil, showcased a solid defensive performance.

Initially, both teams were cautious, taking time to establish their rhythm before engaging in offensive plays. The match began to favor the hosts when Imran Khan executed a delightful dink pass to Javier Siverio during a swift counterattack. Although Siverio controlled the ball adeptly, his shot lacked the precision needed to find the net.

Siverio continued to pose a threat in the first half, challenging the Mohammedan SC defenders with his aerial prowess. Meanwhile, Gaurav Bora of the visitors had to leave the field due to an injury, paving the way for Joseph Adjei, who had just returned from an injury, to step in at the heart of their defense.

A major concern for Andrey Chernyshov and Mohammedan SC was the absence of Mirjalol Kasimov and Alexis Gomez in midfield, leading to a noticeable lack of creativity. Players like Rei Tachikawa and Javi Hernandez were able to bypass the midfield with relative ease.

Jamshedpur FC came close to breaking the deadlock towards the end of the first half when Eze misconnected after Siverio headed the ball down following a corner. Shortly thereafter, Carlos France made a quick run down the left side and laid it off for Makan Chothe in the penalty area. The young talent fired a shot, but Muhammad Uvais was quick to react, allowing Albino Gomes to safely gather the ball.

The second half kicked off with heightened intensity as both teams were eager to take risks and push forward. Mohammedan SC appeared more threatening from the right, with players like Franca and Remsanga stretching the Jamshedpur FC defense. However, they continued to struggle with their final delivery.

Against the run of play, Jamshedpur FC opened the scoring in the 53rd minute after a fast break. Siverio won a header in midfield, leaping over Florent Ogier, and passed it to Tachikawa, who then set up Sanan on the left. The young player skillfully evaded his marker and struck the ball into the top-right corner, beating Bhaskar Roy and giving Jamshedpur FC the lead.

This goal significantly boosted the hosts' morale, leading to a sustained period of pressure. Although Mohammedan SC created a few opportunities, none were as threatening as those from their opponents. Jamshedpur kept Ogier and Adjei busy, and their relentless attacks were rewarded when Bhaskar made an error following a corner. After gathering a header, he mishandled the ball, allowing Siverio to seize the opportunity and score, doubling the lead for the hosts in the 61st minute.

Shortly after a drinks break, Doungel had a prime opportunity to secure the match with a third goal. Tachikawa and Siverio combined effectively, setting up Doungel on the right. However, Bhaskar Roy displayed great awareness, coming off his line to deflect the shot to safety.

Luck was not on the visitors' side when Stephen Eze scored the third goal in the 79th minute. Following a chaotic sequence in the Mohammedan SC penalty area after a corner, the Nigerian found himself in the right place at the right time to drive the ball into the net with a powerful shot.

In the 82nd minute, Jordan Murray made a brief return from injury. Meanwhile, Mohammedan SC managed to pull one back through Mohammed Irshad in the 88th minute. The midfielder rose above the rest to head home from a Zodingliana Ralte free-kick, giving the visitors a glimmer of hope.

Just as it seemed that the scoring had concluded for the night, Pratik Chaudhuri conceded a penalty for a foul on Cesar Manzoki in the box. Franca stepped up to take the penalty, but Albino stood firm, denying the Brazilian with a brilliant save, marking his sixth penalty save in ISL history as Jamshedpur FC secured their fifth win of the season.

Mohammedan SC will next head to Delhi to face Punjab FC on December 6, while Jamshedpur FC will take on Punjab FC at home on December 13.
