Kolkata, Feb 19 (NationPress) Jamshedpur FC are preparing to battle against the last-ranked Mohammedan SC at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Thursday.

The Red Miners currently stand third in the league table, having accumulated 34 points from 20 matches; however, they have experienced three defeats in their last five games.

Their away performance raises concerns, with six losses on the road. Meanwhile, Mohammedan SC has not capitalized on their home advantage.

Presently, the Kolkata-based team is enduring a four-match losing streak and has collected only 11 points from their 20 games, with both victories occurring away from home.

In their previous encounter, the Khalid Jamil-managed team secured a dominant 3-1 victory, but they need to resolve their attacking issues, having gone scoreless in their last two matches, to replicate that success.

Another match without scoring would mark their third consecutive game without a goal for the first time since December 2022. On the other hand, Mohammedan SC is eager to achieve their first home win in 11 attempts, having drawn thrice and lost seven times at home this season.

Jamshedpur FC realistically aims for a second-place finish, trailing FC Goa (39 points) by five. Securing second place would grant them direct qualification for the semi-finals, avoiding a one-legged knockout, but they must not drop any further points.

Mohammedan SC has conceded seven goals to substitutes this season, with only Chennaiyin FC (8) allowing more. This vulnerability might be exploited by Jamshedpur FC if they rely on their bench strength.

Despite struggles in front of goal, their 23-year-old player is their joint-top scorer with two goals, contributing 17 goal-scoring opportunities and averaging 18 passes per game at 76 percent accuracy.

Jamshedpur FC has conceded 19 goals in away matches, marking their equal-worst defensive record in a single ISL season (matching the 2019-20 season). They can take comfort in the fact that Mohammedan SC is the least-scoring team this campaign, with only 10 goals.

Mehrajuddin Wadoo, the Indian assistant coach for Mohammedan SC, complimented Jamshedpur FC for their impressive season thus far.

“We recognize that Jamshedpur FC has performed admirably this season. It won’t be an easy match, but we will strive to put forth our best effort,” he stated.

Khalid Jamil, the head coach of Jamshedpur FC, emphasized the team's determination to secure a victory in this away match against Mohammedan SC.

“This is an away game. We need a positive outcome. Everyone is putting in hard work, and the team must continue this momentum moving forward,” he remarked.
