Mumbai, Feb 28 (NationPress) The Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, has been awarded the Icon of Excellence Award during the 14th edition of the Forbes India Leadership Awards (FILA 2025). This accolade acknowledges his significant contributions to cricket administration.

Throughout his impactful tenure as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and his role as the youngest ICC Chair, Shah has been pivotal in promoting innovation, inclusivity, and growth within the sport.

The award was presented by Harsh Mariwala, Chairman of Marico Limited, along with KVS Manian, MD & CEO of Federal Bank, at a prestigious gathering held at the JIO World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Friday.

According to the award organizers, Shah's leadership has been crucial in initiating vital programs such as pay parity in cricket, the launch of the Women’s Premier League, the establishment of the National Cricket Academy’s Centre of Excellence, and an increase in monthly pensions, among other efforts. His unwavering commitment to broaden cricket's reach, enhance global partnerships, and improve the sport’s infrastructure is shaping the future of the game on an international level.

At just 36 years old, Shah was elected unopposed as the new ICC Chairman, succeeding Greg Barclay, who held the position since November 2020. He not only became the youngest individual to occupy this esteemed role but is also the fifth Indian to serve as ICC Chairman, following Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.

Shah's journey in cricket administration commenced in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association. During his tenure, he was responsible for overseeing the construction of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In 2019, he became the secretary of the BCCI, making history as the youngest person to hold that position. He has also played significant roles as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and as Chair of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
