Jay Shah Envisions Expanding Cricket's Reach as He Takes Over ICC Chairmanship

New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Jay Shah has officially taken on the role of ICC Chairman as of Sunday and articulated his ambition to make cricket more accessible to a wider audience, ensuring that its development aligns with the desires of fans across the globe.
"It is a profound honor to step into the role of ICC Chair today. Cricket is a sport that connects millions around the world, making this a moment filled with both responsibility and opportunity," Shah stated on X, previously known as Twitter.
"As we embark on a transformative journey for cricket, I am devoted to collaborating with the ICC team and Member nations to expand the game's global presence and explore new pathways for its advancement.
"From grassroots programs to major events, my vision focuses on making cricket available to more individuals while ensuring its growth resonates with global fan aspirations," he continued.
Shah also reaffirmed his commitment to Test cricket, aiming to maintain its prestige and allure for fans. He highlighted that women's cricket will be a fundamental element of the ICC's growth strategy.
"Test cricket remains the zenith of the sport, and I am determined to uphold its prominence while boosting its attractiveness to fans. At the same time, women's cricket will be a pivotal part of our strategy as we elevate the sport to new levels.
"I am grateful to all Member Boards for their confidence and support. Together, we will work towards elevating cricket to extraordinary heights, inspiring future generations and bringing communities together through our beloved game of cricket," Shah concluded.
Shah comes with a wealth of experience in cricket management, beginning his journey in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association. Throughout his tenure, he was instrumental in the establishment of the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.
In 2019, Shah became a member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), earning the title of its youngest-ever Honorary Secretary. He has also served as President of the Asian Cricket Council and as Chair of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
Shah takes over from Greg Barclay, who held the position of ICC Chair since November 2020.
