New Delhi, May 31 (NationPress) Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), expressed his pride in representing the cricketing community in Munich, where he had a significant meeting with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.
This encounter took place just prior to the eagerly awaited 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final, featuring Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) against three-time champions Inter Milan at the magnificent 75,000-seater Allianz Arena in Munich.
Shah shared on his ‘X’ account, "Honoured to represent cricket in Munich ahead of the @championsleague Final and engage in discussions with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. It's crucial to connect with fellow sports leaders as the @ICC broadens our sport's global footprint."
Since his appointment as ICC Chairman in December of last year, Shah has been actively working to foster new opportunities for cricket. Shortly after stepping into his role as the youngest chairman in ICC history, he engaged with high-ranking officials from the organizing committees of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics and met the outgoing IOC President Thomas Bach in January 2025.
Previously, Shah played a pivotal role in advocating for cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. In March, he congratulated Kirsty Coventry, who is set to become the first female IOC President on June 23.
Shah also had the opportunity to meet Coventry when she attended the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final match between India and Australia in Dubai on March 4.
Regarding the UEFA Champions League final, PSG is making its second appearance in a title match after losing to Bayern Munich in 2020. Meanwhile, Inter aims to secure their fourth Champions League title, following an impressive campaign highlighted by their suspenseful semi-final against Barcelona.
This final marks the first occasion since 2012 that a German venue is hosting the event.
