Navi Mumbai, Oct 26 (NationPress) Following India's pivotal victory over New Zealand, which secured them a semi-final spot in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues shared insights on the turning point of the match, emphasizing that a team's character is truly evaluated in challenging times.
During the match held at DY Patil Stadium, brilliant centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, coupled with Jemimah’s impressive unbeaten score of 76 off 55 deliveries, propelled India to an extraordinary total of 340/3, leading to a 53-run win via the DLS method. India is set to face Bangladesh in their final league match on Sunday, ahead of the semi-final clash against Australia on October 30.
“In our team discussion, we emphasized that this is our ground. We cannot allow anyone to come in and take what belongs to us. This is our home turf, and we are determined to play our best cricket. A team's character is truly tested not during victories, but when they face adversity,” Jemimah remarked.
“After losing three consecutive matches, we found ourselves under immense pressure and scrutiny. When situations don’t unfold as expected, it's easy to become distracted by external noise. However, one commendable aspect of this team is our unity,” she continued.
“I truly believe this is one of our best teams thus far, as we have played extensively together. Our understanding of each other and our energetic spirit are exceptional. With a mix of youth and seasoned players, a champion team knows how to recover, and that’s precisely what we accomplished,” Jemimah stated in a video shared on bcci.tv on Sunday.
She also expressed her sentiments about playing in Navi Mumbai, her hometown. “Navi Mumbai feels like home. There’s a unique warmth and positivity here, and it’s not just me; the entire team shares this sentiment due to the supportive local crowd. They make us feel cherished and celebrated, showing up in large numbers to cheer us on, and that’s what Navi Mumbai represents for us,” she elaborated.
“As a Mumbai native, I appreciate the convenience of minimal travel. This World Cup has involved extensive travel, but our hotel is conveniently located nearby, allowing us to relax. Additionally, we’ve played a significant amount of cricket over the past two to three years in this region with numerous series, Test matches, and one-day games, which benefits us greatly,” Jemimah concluded.
