New Chandigarh, Sep 17 (NationPress) In a significant setback for the Indian women's cricket team, Jemimah Rodrigues has been sidelined for the remaining matches of the ongoing ODI series against Australia due to a viral fever, as confirmed by the BCCI on Wednesday.
“The BCCI Medical team is closely monitoring her recovery,” the board stated. In her absence, Tejal Hasabnis has been appointed as Jemimah's replacement for the series.
Currently, India is trailing 1-0 in the three-match ODI series against Australia after facing an eight-wicket loss in the series opener held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The next match is set to take place at the same venue on Wednesday.
Following the second ODI, India and Australia will compete in the third and final match of the series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. In the series opener, Jemimah contributed 18 runs off 26 deliveries before being dismissed by fast-bowling all-rounder Tahlia McGrath, as India managed to score 281/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Additionally, Jemimah missed a crucial catch of Australian opener Phoebe Litchfield off Sneh Rana, a costly moment as Litchfield went on to achieve a match-winning score of 88 runs off 80 balls.
Despite this setback, Jemimah is anticipated to make a recovery in time for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, commencing on September 30, where India will face Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
