Jemimah Rodrigues delivered a stirring dressing-room address after India's emphatic victory over Pakistan in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup at Birmingham on 15 June, crediting collective resilience over individual heroics as the defining factor behind the win. In a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the batter went through the squad name by name, ensuring every contributor — including those who endured difficult spells — received public recognition.

Openers and veterans set the tone

Jemimah opened her remarks by singling out opener Shafali Verma for her aggressive intent from ball one. 'First one's always special girls. Firstly, Shifu (Shafali). First ball, big tournament… to hit a six on the first ball,' she said. She then turned to senior batters Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur, whose partnership helped India recover from an early setback. 'Two of our veterans… Smriti, well played! Harry di, well played. To the situation, you both adjusted really well,' Jemimah added.

Middle order and the finishing touch

Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma were praised for their impact in the closing stages of India's innings. 'Talking about how we finished the game well, I think both of you were the best examples,' Jemimah said. The batter stressed, however, that the victory went beyond boundaries and big shots. 'It was not about the sixes, it was not about the boundaries. In bowling, what I loved the best was, there will be days when someone will bowl well and someone might not. But, we spoke about, as a team, we make up for each other.'

Bowling unit pulls back after shaky start

India's bowlers were tested early as Pakistan made a brisk start to their chase, but a collective effort helped trigger a collapse and wrest back control. Jemimah reflected: 'We didn't start off the way we wanted. But, the way we pulled back, I think that should give us a lot of confidence.' Deepti Sharma received special mention for stepping up under pressure. 'I think you always stand out when the pressure is high. And, today, again, you took that responsibility with the ball,' Jemimah said. Young spinner Shreyanka Patil was also commended for her composure: 'The way you bowled — you showed a lot of maturity.'

Backing the bowlers who struggled

Notably, Jemimah took care to publicly back Arundhati Reddy and Kranti Goud, who endured difficult spells, reinforcing team faith in their abilities. 'Arundhati Reddy. You are our best bowler, one of the most experienced bowlers. Everyone believes in you and I know you're going to do a great job next time. Kranti, I think the way you came, the way you bowled, was great. You are also one of our best bowlers, our powerplay specialist. Along with Renuka. So, keep going,' she said. Shree Charani was also acknowledged before Jemimah revisited the turning point — a mid-innings huddle that shifted momentum. 'The first 6 overs, things were going a little here and there. But everyone ran and came in that huddle. And, after that, things changed after Smriti's magic moment.'

Shafali Verma earned a second shoutout, this time for her work in the field. 'Magic hands! You showed that you can always contribute. You were ready for the challenge and you did it,' Jemimah said.
