New Delhi, Aug 17 (NationPress) The head coach of India's U17 women's team, Joakim Alexandersson, unveiled a 23-member squad for the upcoming SAFF U17 Women's Championship taking place in Bhutan 2025, scheduled from August 20 to 31 in Thimphu.
Having recently led the India U20s to their first-ever qualification for the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup in 20 years, Alexandersson is now set to steer the U17s as they prepare for the SAFF championship ahead of the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers in October in Kyrgyzstan.
This year's championship introduces a new format aimed at maximizing game time for players. The tournament will see four teams - India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh - competing in a double round-robin league. Each team is set to play six matches, with the team accumulating the highest points being declared champions.
The India U17 women's team will kick off their campaign against Nepal on August 20, followed by matches against Bangladesh on August 22, Bhutan on August 24 and 27, Nepal on August 29, and concluding with another match against Bangladesh on August 31.
