Joe Root Overtakes Sachin as Top Fourth Innings Run-Scorer in Test Cricket

Christchurch, Dec 1 (NationPress) Star batter Joe Root has eclipsed India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as the foremost run-scorer in the fourth innings of Test matches following England's eight-wicket triumph against New Zealand in the initial Test at Hagley Oval.
Root surpassed Tendulkar's record of 1625 runs in the fourth innings with a swift contribution of 22 runs, propelling England to a 1-0 series advantage. He now accumulates a total of 1630 runs scored in the fourth innings of Test cricket.
Last month, Root, who has amassed 12777 runs overall, outperformed Alastair Cook to become England's leading run-scorer in the first Test against Pakistan.
The right-handed batter achieved this milestone in just 147 Tests and 268 innings, whereas Cook required 161 Tests and 291 innings to reach his final tally.
Root is now positioned behind only Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, South Africa's Jacques Kallis, and Rahul Dravid in terms of total runs scored in Test cricket.
Previously, Root had surpassed Cook in terms of centuries, hitting his 33rd and 34th Test hundreds during the Lord’s Test against Sri Lanka in August, thus becoming the England player with the most Test centuries.
