Kolkata, April 25 (NationPress) In anticipation of their crucial match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings' spin-bowling coach, Sunil Joshi, has lauded captain Shreyas Iyer for his enhanced performance against pace bowling this season. In a media briefing leading up to the game, which marks Shreyas Iyer's inaugural visit to Eden Gardens since guiding them to the IPL 2024 title, Joshi also provided insights into player performances and the team’s game plan.

Joshi commended the return of Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who claimed four wickets in their initial clash with the Knight Riders at New Chandigarh. "Yuzi is the all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL history. Players of his caliber don’t need a reminder of their potential. Their performance is often about confidence and bowling in the correct areas," he remarked.

On the subject of captain Shreyas Iyer, who had previously led KKR to their third IPL title last year, Joshi noted Iyer’s development in handling spin bowling.

“Reflecting on Shreyas’ contributions over the past 8-10 months, especially since the Champions Trophy, he has become more consistent against both pace and spin. His determination and readiness to tackle every challenge are commendable,” the coach stated.

He added, “For a player of his quality, accepting every challenge and every delivery is crucial. I’m confident he’s put in significant effort behind the scenes, resulting in positive outcomes. This is fantastic news and provides great momentum for him as a leader.”

Joshi also discussed the performance of overseas players in the tournament. He expressed confidence in them, suggesting that it merely requires one good match to ignite their success.

When asked about potential changes to the squad or strategy based on the overseas players’ form, Joshi responded, “It only takes one strong performance, whether with bat or ball. Tactically, we need to assess which players match the opposition we face and identify beneficial match-ups. With all this considered, the captain, coach, and staff will create a strategy that aids the team.”

Currently, Punjab Kings are positioned fifth in the points table with 10 points, while Kolkata Knight Riders sit in seventh with six points from eight matches.
