Kerry O'Keeffe: Rohit Sharma's Captaincy Lacks Prowess

Brisbane, Dec 15 (NationPress) On a day when Travis Head and Steve Smith both achieved centuries, placing Australia in a dominant position during the third Test at the Gabba, India appeared bewildered regarding how to halt their momentum from both tactical and strategic standpoints.

Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain in Brisbane was less than stellar, as he was not at his usual proactive and innovative self. Former Australian cricketer Kerry O'Keeffe criticized Rohit for his negative field placements during the second day of play.

“I don’t believe Rohit Sharma had his finest day as captain. He might argue that the pitch was so favorable that we aimed to control it with outfielders, but he needed to apply pressure on Australia to dismiss them,” he conveyed to Fox Sports.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also expressed disapproval regarding India’s inability to adhere to a consistent strategy throughout the match. "They don’t stick to a plan for an adequate duration. Are they attempting to induce a snick? Why don’t they consider bouncing him out? Why not try a full and wide approach, crowding the off side?"

Former head coach of India Ravi Shastri praised Head for exerting pressure on Indian bowlers with his impressive knock of 152 runs, which included 18 boundaries. “He’s appeared solid today, very composed, not overly anxious, simply addressing the bowling according to its merit. Anything loose, he has capitalized on,” he noted.

O'Keeffe also commented positively about Head, who has now scored back-to-back Test centuries against India. "At the core of his success lies the fact that Travis Head steps up and disconnects from the fear of consequences; he doesn’t dread failure. He disregards the scorecard, focusing on the bowling and the pitch… that’s the ideal approach in cricket."
