Rohit Confronts Challenges as Batter and Captain Following Test Defeat

Melbourne, Dec 30 (NationPress) Following India’s substantial 184-run loss in the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne, Rohit Sharma encountered pressing questions regarding his future in Test cricket and his role as a leader. In the post-match press conference, the Indian captain admitted that both his batting and captaincy had not lived up to expectations.

Rohit’s individual performance has been a significant concern, accumulating only 31 runs in five innings during the series and a mere 123 runs across his last six Tests. His captaincy has also faced criticism, with India remaining winless in their last six Tests under his guidance, including a historic 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand in October-November.

"We had the chance today to turn the game in our favor or at least draw it. There’s still a game left; if we perform well, the series could be level at 2-2. I remain where I am today. There’s no point dwelling on past incidents. Many things I’m attempting as a batter aren’t aligning. You want to come here and succeed, and when that doesn’t happen, it’s disappointing," Rohit shared with reporters.

Rohit also addressed the controversy surrounding Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal, which ignited widespread discussion. Jaiswal, who was batting at 84, was controversially ruled out after a DRS review despite the absence of clear evidence from Snicko.

"I’m not sure what to conclude from that, as the technology didn’t indicate anything. To the naked eye, it seemed to have touched something. I’m uncertain about what the umpires wish to rely on. In all fairness, he did make contact with the ball. We don’t want to dwell too much on that; we’re just on the wrong side of these decisions," he stated.

India now prepares for the New Year’s Test in Sydney, requiring a victory to level the series and maintain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit highlighted the significance of the upcoming Test, saying, "There are aspects that we, as a team, need to address, and I personally need to assess as well. We will see what unfolds."
