Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 10 (NationPress) India's wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan expressed his desire to serve as a source of inspiration for aspiring players upon his return to Patna Airport after significantly contributing to India's victory at the T20 World Cup 2026. Kishan was greeted by his father, Pranav Pandey, and a jubilant crowd who celebrated the champion with enthusiastic chants.
Having made a notable comeback to the Indian team just before the World Cup, Kishan believes that his success story could motivate young athletes in the city.
"Our team’s victory is not just a win for us; it’s a proud moment for the entire nation. We aspire to continue our cricketing journey and achieve more victories," Kishan told reporters at the airport.
"I feel elated because I think my performance can ignite motivation in the young kids here who aspire to excel. I always aim to help as many players as possible emerge from every corner of our country. Our World Cup win demonstrates that with determination, success can come from anywhere," he added.
When questioned about Kirti Azad's tweet, where the cricketer-turned-politician criticized the Indian cricket team's captain, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), for taking the T20 World Cup trophy to a temple in Ahmedabad, Kishan expressed his discontent.
"Sir, we’ve just won a monumental World Cup. Could you please ask a more relevant question? I’d prefer to discuss how exhilarating it was or share my experiences," Kishan responded.
As the second-highest run scorer for India in the T20 World Cup 2026, with 317 runs over nine innings at an average of 35.22 and a strike rate exceeding 193, including three fifties, one in the finals, Kishan reflected on his future goals.
"I don’t have elaborate plans, just focus on scoring runs, playing consistently, and winning matches," he mentioned.
His father, Pranav, added, “It’s a fantastic feeling. We’ve made history again and avenged our previous defeat. Now our focus shifts to preparing for the 2027 World Cup.”
Kishan is set to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where he will play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have retained him ahead of the tournament.
