Lucknow, April 22 (NationPress) KL Rahul has made history by becoming the fastest player to achieve 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), accomplishing this feat during the Delhi Capitals' emphatic eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday. He reached this remarkable milestone in just 130 innings, surpassing notable players such as David Warner (135), Virat Kohli (157), AB de Villiers (161), and Shikhar Dhawan (168).

In a match against his former team, which he led in IPL 2024 before being released due to a heated exchange with the franchise owner, Rahul scored a solid unbeaten 57 runs off 44 balls to help secure a significant victory.

During his innings, he skillfully dealt with the spin bowling from Aiden Markram, Digvesh Rathi, and Ravi Bishnoi, eventually hitting the latter for an impressive six over deep mid-wicket. He followed this up with another six off Markram in the next over.

Rahul achieved his half-century in just 40 balls, accumulating three fours and six sixes, while partnering with Axar Patel to put pressure on the Lucknow bowlers, dominating the field. He capped off the evening with a six to seal the match against Prince Yadav.

This season, Rahul has been in exceptional form, recently becoming the fastest Indian to reach the milestone of 200 IPL sixes, ranking third overall, behind the West Indies' Chris Gayle and Andre Russell, who took 69 and 97 innings, respectively.

At 33 years old, Rahul has been a pivotal player for Delhi this season, showcasing his skill and consistency. With a strike rate of 155.67, he boasts the second-highest strike rate of his 12-season IPL career.

So far, he has amassed 359 runs in eight innings, serving as a crucial anchor for the team. His standout performance came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he played an unbeaten innings of 93 runs, leading his team to a six-wicket victory. Notably, he missed the opening match of the season to welcome the birth of his first child.
