Where Will ‘Most Experienced Batter’ KL Rahul Bat?

New Delhi, June 14 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer WV Raman expressed curiosity about the batting position of KL Rahul, the team’s most seasoned player for the upcoming Test series in England. Known for his ability to score runs regardless of his batting order, Rahul’s placement will be crucial.

With Rohit Sharma stepping away from Test cricket, and assuming no unexpected developments arise, Rahul is likely to open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. His recent form, including a solid 116 and 51 in the second multi-day match against the England Lions, further supports this decision.

While some believe that batting at number five could provide stability, Rahul's experience, patience, and capability to handle challenging conditions make him an optimal choice at the top. Notably, he can also mentor the young Jaiswal through difficult phases in England.

“K.L. Rahul must elevate his game as the most experienced player in the squad. He has been a consistent performer across all formats for India. Expectations will be high for him,” Raman remarked.

“It will be intriguing to see where he fits into the lineup throughout the series. Rahul has shown adaptability by batting at various positions across formats, yet he consistently delivers runs.”

“The Indian management should have a definitive strategy regarding batting positions throughout the series. In a five-match series, it is crucial to identify and finalize the best combinations as the matches progress,” Raman stated in an exclusive conversation with IANS, facilitated by Sony Sports Network.

In contrast, young left-handed batter B Sai Sudharsan is seen as a potential candidate for the number three position, although Raman is uncertain about his inclusion in the playing eleven for the initial matches in Leeds and Birmingham.

“I have doubts about his participation in the first two Tests, as my envisioned batting order does not include him. However, the team management might have different plans, considering his good form and temperament.”

“He has prior exposure to English conditions from his experiences in county cricket, showcasing his ability to adapt and learn quickly. If given opportunities, he is likely to perform well as he has at every level.”

Despite injuries affecting England’s bowling attack, Raman cautioned that India’s batting lineup must not underestimate the strengths of England’s bowlers in favorable conditions in Leeds when the first Test kicks off on June 20.

“Let us not disregard the other seamers; they are familiar with these conditions and know how to take wickets. Even if they lack extensive international experience, they understand what it takes to succeed in English conditions. Chris Woakes is a competent bowler, and Jamie Overton can also be formidable on his day.”

“Additionally, Brydon Carse can be a significant threat when conditions favor seam bowling. If the English batters can set a challenging total, they present a genuine challenge for the Indian side. While India boasts considerable talent, it remains to be seen how they cope with demanding conditions.”
