New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) Ex-India opener Aakash Chopra has pointed out the evolution in the batting strategies of cricketing icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during the IPL. He noted a significant increase in their strike rates over the past two seasons, stating that watching them bat with such vigor is akin to experiencing a Ferrari.

Kohli and Rohit, who have long been recognized as pivotal figures in T20 cricket, have modified their playing techniques to adapt to the increasing demands of the game. Since 2024, both have embraced a more dynamic style, showing impressive performances in the ongoing IPL 2026.

“Observe how both players have ramped up their game. From 2020 to 2023, Kohli and Rohit maintained strike rates of 126 and 127, which were relatively conservative. However, their transformation since 2024 is remarkable; they are now striking at 152, almost as if they are behind the wheel of a Ferrari,” Chopra remarked during an interview on JioStar.

In another discussion, former Indian captain Anil Kumble provided insights into why the emerging spinner Digvesh Rathi poses a challenge for batters. His unique wrist and finger positions make it hard to decipher his deliveries.

“The distinction between a leg-spin ball that turns away from the batsman and a googly is subtle in his bowling style, which complicates reading him. The grip he employs remains consistent, with his thumb positioned on the side, the index finger atop the seam, and the middle finger bent. The only variation is in the placement of his index finger for the googly, making it tricky to pick. His delivery speed is also impressive; failing to judge the length correctly could lead to a dismissal,” he explained.

The legendary leg-spinner also shared advice for aspiring bowlers eager to hone their spin techniques, stressing the importance of practice and finger strength from an early age.

“Starting off with a rubber or tennis ball is a great way to practice spinning. It requires a bit of pressure on the ball to execute a carrom ball. Initially, focus on inducing turn, and later refine your control by bowling as frequently as possible. Transitioning to a cricket ball will allow you to apply these skills effectively, as mastering the grip and strengthening your fingers are crucial for successful spin bowling,” he added.
