New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) As the third day of the Ranji Trophy Group D contest between Delhi and Railways kicked off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, black covers were prominently displayed at the edge of the Bishan Singh Bedi stand, located next to the dressing room in the Virat Kohli Pavilion.
When inquired about this change, DDCA officials informed IANS that the black covers were set up early Saturday morning after both Delhi and Railways teams expressed discomfort due to the noise created by fans who had gathered near the edge of the dressing room in the Bishan Singh Bedi stand over the past two days.
This chanting reached a crescendo when fans surrounded the edge during the second day's play on Friday, trying to catch a glimpse of the iconic Virat Kohli, who was seen in the Delhi team dressing room balcony after his dismissal for just six runs, as fans shouted his name, along with references to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and his nickname ‘Cheeku’.
“Both the Delhi and Railways teams had been disturbed by the fans' shouts in the Bishan Singh Bedi stand over the last two days, leading to complaints. Consequently, the DDCA and security personnel decided to install black covers for the third day's play on Saturday. Additionally, for safety reasons, gates 17 and 18 have been shut to fan entry today,” the sources added.
For the third day's actions, spectators eager to witness the game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium will occupy the Gautam Gambhir and Mohinder Amarnath stands, while the Old Clubhouse stands will host DDCA members. Despite restricted access to the West stand, a small contingent of fans has been vociferously chanting Kohli’s name.
In terms of the match, Delhi could only add 40 runs to their overnight score and ended all out at 374 runs in 106.4 overs, thereby establishing a 133-run lead over Railways. Sumit Mathur contributed significantly with a score of 86, while Navdeep Saini added a valuable 20 not out.
For Railways, the standout bowler was Himanshu Sangwan, who claimed 4 wickets for 55 runs, including the crucial wicket of Kohli on the second day. He was well-backed by pacer Kunal Yadav, who took 3 wickets for 104 runs, and Rahul Sharma, Ayan Chaudhari, and Karn Sharma each secured one wicket.
